Feb 16, 2021 (Springfield, MO)– In 2020, there were 57,000 wildfires in the United States damaging 10.3 million acres. In the sixth year of their partnership, Küat and the National Forest Foundation recognize their work is more important than ever. Under its congressional charter, the National Forest Foundation (NFF) is the only organization specifically dedicated to the conservation and restoration of 193 million acres of national forest in the US.
The NFF is determined to keep these lands wooded and healthy via the Future Forest Initiative. Küat and NFF kicked off their partnership in 2015 and since then have planted 482,875 trees to date using proceeds from rack sales. Those trees rehavilitate a region more than three times the size of Central Park and offset the carbon emissions of about 800 US households.
Küat president and co-founder Luke Kuschmeader said that this partnership continues to be a cornerstone of the company’s mission.
"At Küat, we want to keep places we recreate healthy," said Kushmeader. "National Forests are extremely valuable to all of us here and to our customers. We continue to be proud of the support we provide to National Forests across the U.S.”
Reforestation projects with the NFF for 2021 are focused in six regions across the United States including Ozark St. Francis National Forest in Arkansas, Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest in Wisconsin, Flathead National Forest in Montana, Arapahoe and Roosevelt National Forests in Colorado, Boise National Forest, and Sierra National Forest in California. Every year, the NFF focuses efforts on National Forests in the most need. Most projects are based in areas where forest fires have severely damaged the landscape.
Britt Holewinski, reforestation partnerships coordinator for the NFF, said Küat’s role in this project is vital.
“Küat has shown an investment in ensuring public lands, and especially our National Forests, remain healthy and whole, through improved watershed health, wildlife habitat, and forest resiliency,” said Holewinski. “This year, Küat will support efforts in all our key focus regions includings the forests in Colorado and California devastated by wildfires. Kuat’s donation will also be used to restore longleaf forests in Alabama, and whitebark pine in Montana, which are critical species in their respective ecosystems. We are so appreciative of Küat's continued support for our forests.”
