Press Release

(June 4, 2019 – Scotts Valley, CA)

Giro Sport Design, the cycling world’s design leader, today announced the all-new, professional-grade Imperial™ road cycling shoes, their first model featuring the proprietary combination of a Synchwire™ monofilament upper with a twin-Boa® IP1 micro-adjustable closure. The Giro Imperial is available immediately from authorized Giro retailers and for $425 USD/ €429/ £374.

At a gravity-defying 215g, the Imperial™ sets the standard for lightweight, high-performance road cycling footwear that can stand up to the demands of elite racing and training. The heart of the Imperial is Giro’s proprietary Synchwire™ upper construction that utilizes an ultralight monofilament mesh, reinforced with thermal-welded Teijin® TPU for optimal structural support and enhanced durability where it’s needed, plus dual Boa IP1 buckles with soft lace guides that eliminate potential hot spots and other discomforts. A high-modulus Easton® EC90 SLX2 carbon fiber plate delivers ultimate stiffness-to-weight, and when coupled with the adjustable Super Natural Fit footbed system, provides optimal pedaling efficiency with customizable arch support for performance and luxurious comfort. The result is a race-ready shoe that fits and feels like a second skin right out of the box, with on-the-fly micro-adjustment for a secure, supportive fit and maximum pedaling efficiency.

“We created the world’s lightest production shoe two years ago with the 150g Prolight Techlace, but we wanted more,” said Giro Footwear Product Manager Peter Curran. “More adjustability, more comfort, more features that give riders the performance to get the most out of their riding, whether it’s a one hour criterium or a seven hour Grand Tour stage. While we have a reputation as the leader in laced-upper cycling shoes, we believe in choice. And the Imperial is the ultimate option for riders seeking light weight, professional-grade performance and adjustability with best-in-class comfort.”
